Inside Look: Titleist Golf Ball Production Process

Core mixing is truly at the center of golf ball production:

  1. Each Titleist golf ball has its own unique formulation.
  2. Compression molded planks are excruded into cores from molds.
  3. Cores are then ground to perfect spheres.
  4. A thin casing layer is molded onto each Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball.
  5. Then each ball is cast with a urethane elastomer cover, buffed, painted, stamped, sprayed with clear coating, packaged, shipped, sold, teed up, hit....and finally, lost!

Titleist Golf Balls: Slow Motion Point of Impact [Excellent]

Slow motion golf ball hit at impact and ball compression

Denver Golf Equipment
From Titleist golf ball Research and Development; at 22,000 frames-per-second, this image and video (below) shows the moment of impact set at 4 swing speeds. From this we learn the mechanics of how the golf ball impacts the club when hit and how that translates into spin, speed and launch angle. The golf swing speeds tested are:
  1. 175 mph
  2. 160 mph
  3. 135 mph
  4. 120 mph
The most interesting part of this is little difference at impact, if any at all. The question is what does impact look like at speeds closer to the average golfer; 105+ mph, 95-105 mph and below 95 mph.

Titleist "TEST" Golf Ball Found

Whilst seeking out yet another laser straight 300+ yard drive, I stumbled upon this Titleist "TEST" ball. Nestled neatly in TALL native grass, nearly OB, right next to mine, doh! With an identical dimple pattern, font and ball number color, this appears to be a Pro V1x. This really is a test!

Does anyone know the origins of this golf ball?

Evolution of Titleist Golf Balls: Remember These?

These go back to the Acushnet Club Special, Acushnet K (Ball #6 and #8), Titleist Acushnet DT (Ball #3), Titleist DT "Durable SURLYN" (#5), DT 90 (Durable Titleist), Tour Balata 100 and 384 Tour 100. Wow....still playable:) Can anyone else fill-in with pre Club Special pics? Or, perhaps other balls I've missed?
